Content aware resize hase been shown on siggraph 2007 and has touched a nerve with design comunity. It offers simles resizing with minimal detail loss, eather when stretching or scaling down a image.
Almost immediately after release of the paper detailing the process and algorithm did the open source versions and even a plugin for GIMP and in the future versions (slated for CS4) of PhotoShop.

The video demonstrates the amazing abilitys of this new approach to resizing and is welll worth the watch.
